Designer's Statement

"As a designer, my first first priority when starting a project is to encompass a certain feel. A number of factors go into this: the industry, the client, the trends, and lastly the designer. Images and colors that project this feeling should first be brought up as a basis in which to start work. If a work looks great but is missing the desired feeling, we are left with recognition that the work looks good but are nevertheless disappointed. If something is very functional but lacks the idea and feeling that initially inspired the project, a similar feeling of disappointment ensues. Secondly comes functionality: My goal is to create pieces that both have the correct feel to them as well as working as simply and as beautifully as possible. "

The Turning Heads

theturningheads.com

The Turning Heads site represents a fictional local record store with a focus on buying and selling new and used records along with the ocasional in-house small performance. The design is made to be fun and energetic without looking old fashioned. Its current pages include a scrollable music library preview, a buy and sell page, a contact form, and a list of upcoming events. The Turning Head's stock is organized by genre and with further development would see an individual page per each category.

Photography by Samuel Christensen

samuelschristensen.com

Photography by Samuel Christensen takes the domain of my namesake (samuelchristensen.com) and transforms it into a usable gallery for my photography hobby. While I do use the site as proof of professionalism it also serves as a backup plan to account for the erratic nature of social media. (we all remember remnants like Myspace and Google plus) Not to mention social media platforms degrade photo quality for the honor of storage space; making samuelchristensen.com my own personal photo haven.

Events.com

Events.com was born of the frustration of finding a fun event on a whim. When stuck in a thought loop of what to do with good friends, finding events happening the night of the conversation on a budget is significantly harder than one would think given the age of the internet. Google searches yield decent results but lack local know-how and focus almost entirely on paid events.

Events.com would work a little like Craigslist with a local section based on each city, for example, "Events.com/minneapolis" or "Events.com/memphis". The way it's coded at this moment in time Events.com relies on an inside team marketing official events, however in the future the best way to really get good info on free nightly happenings is an added submission sections that anyone could post to. Legitimate events would be found at the top of the list while unconfirmed events could be found in a separate section. Links to ticketed events are also available.
